Mega Man NEO: My Stage Ideas
These are the stages that I originally created when I first made up this concept, but are not necessarily the final product. You can submit your own ideas and themes to the forum and we may use those instead, but this is just here for an example.
Stage Name | Main Location | Primary Aesthetic/Themes | Gimmicks (if there are any) | Name Connection in Norse Mythology |
Alfheim | Large shopping district/mall during a riot | Light, neon signs, graffiti, nighttime, urban | Breakable glass panels, enemies that jump out of shop windows in background, neon signs that can be knocked down | Associated with the light element due to being the home of the light elves |
Yggdrasil | Subway train travelling through the city | Railroad, moving stage, electricity | Falling off train means instant death, intermittent obstacles that must be avoided when on top of train | Associated with a subway system because of how Yggdrasil’s roots spread out to all the realms |
Aegir | Water treatment facility, river | Water, ice, pipes, glass | Underwater level with swimming controls, floating ice platforms, water currents that can force the player in one direction | Aegir is the giant associated with the ocean, hence the stage having a water theme |
Hnitbjorg | Mine tunnels | Crystals, rocks, construction | Stalactites and stalagmites that deal damage on contact, crystals that fall from the ceiling | Hnitbjorg was a mountain that Odin drilled into to find a sacred mead flask, hence the level being located in a mine |
Svartalfheim | Factory/metalworks | Fire, lava, metal | Lava that deals damage on contact, moving factory machines that can crush characters | Svartalfheim is the home of the dwarves, who are known for their skills in metallurgy, hence the factory location |
Bifrost | In the sky above an airport | Wind, storm, airships | Flying level, plays like a side scrolling shooter until the boss, which plays like normal | Bifrost refers to the rainbow bridge used to travel to other realms, like how an airport lets people travel to other countries |
Jarnvidr | Forest/city park | Jungle, wooden village | Vines that characters can swing on, logs and other objects that turn into traps, enemies that pop out from grass or leaf piles | Jarnvidr is a forest that lies to the east of Midgard in mythology, so it would only make sense that the stage would also be one |
Helheim | Prison/asylum | Darkness, stealth, military | Spotlights that trigger enemy spawns if they see you, dark areas where visibility is reduced | Helheim is the gloomy realm of the dead, and people often describe asylums as hellish places, so the two worked well together to create this stage |
This improves on the Designing for Prestige assignment by giving details of what the player will see in-game.
